The Great American Breakfast Quest

Pancakes

As the season turns to sunnier days and the call of fresh produce stalls and farmers’ markets rise once again in the air, I’m inspired to clean off my countertops, stock the pantry, invest in a couple of new cookbooks, and dedicate whole weekends to the pursuit of culinary adventure.

Culled from the kitchens of our childhoods and the pocketbooks of now, these are some tried and beloved recipes to kickstart any spring/summer morning.

Blake’s Mom’s Muffins – an easy-to-adapt muffin recipe with whole wheat flour, fruit, and applesauce.

My Daddy’s French Toast - exactly what it sounds like; made with TLC and a whole lotta love.

Simple, Succulent Scones – a blueberry and vanilla yogurt recipe that’s fool-proof and quick.

5 O’Clock Muffins – an easy apple muffin recipe intended for Afternoon Tea, but fabulous for breakfast, too.

Basic Frittata – if you’re cleaning out your fridge and need something scrumptious to do with those eggs and veggies, this is the way to go.

Blueberry Oatmeal Muffinsa breakfast muffin with soul.

Pumpkin Butter Muffins – a seasonal treat for the senses.

Baked Blueberry French Toast – a twist on the traditional french toast recipe; an overnight recipe that takes just minutes in the morning.

The Best Damn Chocolate Chip Cookies. Ever. - perhaps a bit of self-congratulatory hyperbole on my part, but these cookies are amazingly moist, divine, and oh! scrumptious.

Basic Granola Cookiesthe gateway cookie to greater granola adventures.

Ultimate Blackberry Muffinsnot too sweet, but with a beautiful berry core, these are perfect for breakfast or any tea-time snack.

Cranberry Pecan Scones – along with the heavy, dense, butteriness of scones, these babies pack in a good bit of wallop with the tartness of the cranberries.

Blueberry Pancakes, Summer Style – less sharp than sourdough, yet moist in the way that a good muffin is moist, these winners have enough substance to hold a significant load of maple syrup and butter.
